New York as a Colony

Welcome!

Welcome to the Colony of  New York!  New York offered the people a place to work and raise a family. New York would also offer a variety of jobs from farming, mining to shipping.  This colony would become the future gateway for trade shipping and travel to the world.

Who originaly settled New York?

The original settler who established this colony was an English man named Henry Hudson who at the time was working for the Dutch, who claimed the land in the name of the Netherlands. It was originally named New Netherlands.

People in New York

First white settlers represented the Dutch West India Company. Dutch patrons set up patroons in which 50 people received a grant to start a farms if they promised to share their profit with the patron. Some people came to New York as endentured servants.
